This October marks the fiftieth anniversary of Dave Warner’s from the Suburbs one of Australia’s most unique bands. `Suburban Boy’ Dave Warner, named by Bob Dylan as one of his favourite Australian artists, launched out of Perth with his 1972 proto-punk band Pus, then refined the concept into ‘suburban rock’ the Australian equivalent of Brit ‘kitchen-sink, angry young-man’ cinema. In the late 70s Dave Warner’s from the Suburbs crash-tackled a largely imitative Australian rock scene with unbridled energy and originality with album ‘Mugs Game’ going gold within eight weeks. Tracks like “Convict Streak’ and ‘Half Time at the Football’, precursors to rap, and sung in an Australian accent sliced and diced the country’s culture and led to Warner’s arrest for singing “obscene songs”.

Forget nostalgia. Electric Safari 2026 isn’t about preserving the past under museum glass —it’s about plugging it back into the mains and seeing what lights up. This October, the Electric Pandas tear up Australia’s east coast with songs from the forthcoming album A Love Electric, where melody collides with voltage and every chorus feels like it’s outrunning tomorrow. The classics are back too, because great songs never age. And then there’s Big Girls, detonated into a full-blown EDM fever dream by Brian Canham of Pseudo Echo. No safety net. No cruise control. Just beautiful noise, bright lights and the delicious possibility that anything could happen.

A night of noise and escalation, this showcase tracks a distinct, heavy sonic evolution, moving from weaponised acoustic storytelling into a chaotic wall of sound. Starting with sharp, satirical folk-rock structures and dark, gothic Australian narratives as the atmosphere collapses into stark noise rock, grunge, and industrial sludge punk ending in a hotbed of frantic post-hardcore and emo math-rock, delivering a cathartic, genre-shifting release. It is a chaotic progression from folk roots to punk fury, driven entirely by local acts pushing the boundaries of alternative and experimental music.
