Wonderland takes a high-flying turn
Lewis Carroll’s curious world is made for circus: bodies bend, balance and soar as if Wonderland’s strange rules have taken hold. Cirque Alice draws on that possibility, pairing acrobatic spectacle with puppetry and dance. Its musical twist is a soundtrack of contemporary reworkings of classical favourites—a familiar sound given a fresh role in a fantastical setting.
At Sydney Lyric Theatre, aerialists and contortionists bring the story’s sense of topsy-turvy adventure into the air and onto the stage. The mix of circus skills, puppetry and newly arranged music offers a lively way into Carroll’s world, whether you know every turn of the rabbit hole or are simply curious to see how its dreamlike logic translates to live performance.
