ABOUT THE EVENT
Two of the most compelling musical minds of our time come together for an evening of extraordinary chamber music.
Acclaimed Ukrainian-Australian pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk and visionary violinist and artistic director Richard Tognetti share the City Recital Hall stage in a recital of breathtaking range and emotional depth.
The programme opens with Karol Szymanowski’s Mythes, Op. 30 — three hauntingly evocative tone poems that shimmer with colour and mystery, pushing the boundaries of violin technique and expression. The evening continues with Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata No. 2, a work of steely lyricism and dramatic intensity that showcases the full command of both performers.
The recital culminates in one of the great pillars of the chamber repertoire: Johannes Brahms’ Violin Sonata No. 3 in D minor. Passionate, tempestuous and profoundly moving, it is a fitting finale for two artists of this calibre.
