Follow a colourful procession of characters inspired by the many people and communities connected to Oxford Street.
Through playful imagery and bold design, Still Walking reflects on the stories, identities and experiences that have contributed to the area's rich cultural history. Installed in the public realm, the work celebrates visibility, individuality and the continuing evolution of one of Sydney's most significant cultural precincts.
Artist statement:
For generations, Oxford Street has been the symbolic heart of Sydney’s queer community: a place of celebration, protest, loss, self-discovery and belonging.
Still Walking uses legs, shoes and movement as a visual shorthand for the many people who have walked these streets and shaped its culture. Each banner references a different identity, era or community, forming a colourful procession of imagined figures moving together through queer history.
