Hello and welcome to Sydney This Week, your guide to the concerts, shows and outings worth knowing about across the city over the coming days.
Olivia DeanFri, 9 Oct · Sat, 10 Oct
Let's start with Olivia Dean at Afterpay Arena in Sydney Olympic Park. Dean is a London singer-songwriter who trained at the BRIT School, alongside alumni like Adele and Amy Winehouse. Her music mixes indie pop with a warm, soulful edge, inspired by the likes of Bill Withers and Motown. The Sydney dates are Friday the ninth and Saturday the tenth of October.
ElissaSat, 10 Oct
Also on Saturday the tenth, the TikTok Entertainment Centre in Darling Harbour hosts Elissa, a Lebanese star who has spent more than three decades shaping the sound of romance across the Arab world, with hits like Ayshalak and Ahla Dounya.
Monster Jam World TourSat, 10 Oct
For something much louder that same Saturday, the Monster Jam World Tour comes to Accor Stadium. Ten monster trucks, including the famous Grave Digger and newcomer ThunderROARus, tear up the stadium dirt with jumps and flips. It's pitched squarely at families.
Volatile OmbréThu, 8 Oct · Fri, 9 Oct
Sticking with young audiences, the Opera House's Utzon Room has Volatile Ombré on Thursday the eighth and Friday the ninth. French company La Rotule, making its Australian debut, uses shadow puppetry, live cello and birdsong to tell a gentle story about nature, with floor vibrations so little ones can feel the music. It's half an hour long, in French and English.
Season Squad The MusicalThu, 8 Oct · Fri, 9 Oct
Up in Chatswood, the Zenith Theatre has Season Squad The Musical on the same Thursday and Friday. Four guardians of the seasons try to make summer last forever, and their town starts to unravel. Expect catchy original pop songs, dancing and a message about teamwork.
Step Out for CancerSun, 11 Oct
On Sunday the eleventh, Step Out for Cancer begins at Allianz Stadium in Moore Park, with a six-kilometre walk through the stadium and the SCG to Royal Randwick, raising money for childhood cancer research and care.
King Gizzard & The Lizard WizardWed, 14 Oct
And finally, on Wednesday the fourteenth, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard bring their Rock 'n' Roll n' Rave Roadshow to the Hordern Pavilion: a full concert, then a late-night rave just across the road at Liberty Hall.
That's the week, from soulful pop and Arabic love songs to shadow puppets and a Sunday walk for a good cause. Check the linked event details before you head out.
